4 Shot at Howe Park Sacramento - Large Unauthorized Party Erupts in Gunfire
On the evening of Saturday April 18, an unapproved gathering of a large crowd at the Howe Park area in the Arden-Arcade area of Sacramento ended in a shooting when between 20 and 25 shots were discharged as Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputies were actively breaking up the gathering.
The Incident
At around 6:30 PM on April 18, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office received calls involving persons reportedly carrying concealed firearms at Howe Community Park in Sacramento. A follow-up call reported a possible physical altercation and people leaving the area quickly.
Law enforcement air support was utilized and conducted an aerial search but found no evidence of an active fight.
Even so, several hundred people had collected at the park for what deputies referred to as an unapproved assembly. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies formed a perimeter around the park, activated their vehicle emergency lights, and spent approximately 15 minutes announcing over loudspeakers for people to leave through their vehicle PA systems.
While deputies were dispersing the crowd, between 20 and 25 shots were fired — sending hundreds of people running in all directions at once.
Those Injured
Four victims — a female and three male victims, ranging in age through their 20s — were transported to area hospitals. Two were classified with immediate injuries, one here was classified with moderate injuries, and one with minor injuries. Each of the four victims was in stable condition.
